Landmark, McIntosh and Starr’s Mill girls win titles, as do Fayette County and Landmark boys teams

The region 4-AAAAA championship, run at Sandy Creek high School, was won by local teams on both the boys and girls side.

Fayette County High School won the region title on the boys side and Starr’s Mill won it on the girls side. Fayette’s girls placed third while the Starr’s Mill boys placed second. Starr’s Mill’s Ginny Balckom and Austin Enriquez were individual region champions.

The top runners for the Fayette County boys were:

• David Zitelli, 3, 17:28,
• John DeCotis, 5, 17:38
• Ryan Kennedy, 7, 17:50
• Michael Blankenbeker, 9, 17:59
• Mark Torre, 16, 18:18

Starr’s Mill’s region championship girls team was led by Balckom, 20:12. Rounding out the top five were:

• Kristin Horton, 3, 20:40
• Mary Kate Hyer, 5, 20:46
• Aya Ishizu, 7, 21:09
• Stefani Adams, 9, 21:30

The top runner for the Fayette County girls squad were:

• Claire Bergstrom, 6, 20:47
• Caitlin Alverson, 8, 21:17
• Rebecca Kollmeyer, 19, 23:27
• Katerina Skourtis, 20, 23:37
• Liliana Urrego, 22, 24:02

The top runners for the Starr’s Mil boys were Enriquez, 16:28, followed by:

• Matthew Beeson, 13, 18:16
• Michael Kadow, 14, 18:17
• Clayton Epling, 15, 18:18
• Ryan Darr, 18, 18:21

The McIntosh girls won the region 4-AAAA championship on Saturday at the Clinton Nature Preserve. The Lady Chiefs’ Emily Borsare was the region champion with her season best time, 16:59. The other top finishers for McIntosh were:

• Rebecca Stokes, 5, 19:15
• Erica Hughey, 6, 19:22
• Kaia Hampton, 7, 19:41
• Kristy Espiau, 11, 19:59

Whitewater’s girls placed sixth in the region. Their top runners were:

• Kasie Knapper, 9, 19:51
• Claire Huff, 43, 22:10
• Melinda Thayer, 46, 22:24
• Carson Leathers, 54, 23:51
• Emily Davis, 55, 24:19

Sandy Creek’s girls placed ninth. Their top runners were:

• Christine Dunphy, 12, 20:00
• Sara Harper, 31, 21:24
• Angela Holcomb, 40, 21:57
• Mia Jones, 50, 22:48
• Emily Goss, 60, 25:07

On the boys side of the region championships, McIntosh, Sandy Creek and Whitewater placed sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.

McIntosh’s top five were:

• Cormac Carolan Tolbert, 32, 17:41
• Chris Cage, 35, 17:45
• Brenden Leonard, 43, 18:20

Sandy Creek’s top five were:

• Patrick McCarthy, 45, 18:33
• Jerry Riet, 51, 18:52
• Dustin Page, 52, 19:03

Whitewater’s top five were:

• Josh Adair, 33, 17:41
• Brian Ferrero, 38, 18:03
• Josiah Myerscough, 41, 18:18
• Mikey Curtis, 44, 18:23
• Wiliam Morrissey, 54, 19:21

Our Lady of Mercy hosted the region 5-A championships but their rivals at Landmark Christian School, on both the boys and the girls side, took home the region titles, while the Lady Bobcats placed second and the boys squad placed third.

The top five runner for the Landmark boys were:

• Chad Thames, 4, 16:52
• Brett Lewis, 7, 17:37
• Mehamed Gomez, 8, 17:45
• Alek Pike, 9, 17:54
• Zack Speir, 12, 18:15

The top five for the Landmark girls were region champion, Elizabeth Gresham, with a time of 20:00. She was followed by:

• Kaity Bulger, 3, 20:17
• Caroline Jones, 7, 20:56
• Christian McGuire, 11, 21:39
• Kassie Deel, 12, 21:40

The Our Lady of Mercy boys were led by region champion Jake Lethbridge with a time of 16:39, while his brother, Matt, placed second with a time of 16:40. Rounding out the top five for Our Lady of Mercy’s boys were:

• Matt Fitzgerald, 11, 18:09
• Daniel Harlow, 15, 18:23
• Thomas Raville, 17, 18:30

The top five runners for Our Lady of Mercy’s girls were:

• Sarah Hohenberger, 2, 20:02
• Marina Fleming, 8, 21:07
