Fayette Portraits

Since 1986, students at Fayette County High have been educating residents on the rich history of Fayette County through their own magazine, “Fayette Portraits.”

This year marks the 20th anniversary edition of the publication, which focuses on the history of the county and the people who have impacted it. This year’s issue is titled “Lasting Impressions.”

Students at the high school coordinate every aspect of the magazine. Each year approximately 14-20 students enroll in a two-semester class devoted to “Fayette Portraits” where they learn about all of the aspects of magazine production from selling advertising to writing, editing, photography and layout. Students contract with a publisher to get the magazine professionally printed, bound and ready for distribution.

Around 400 magazines are published each year and are sold to the community for $5 per issue. The 2006 edition is on sale now and can be purchased at Fayette County High Monday-Friday from 8:40 a.m.-3:20 p.m.

Proceeds raised from the sale of the magazines go back into the “Fayette Portraits” account to cover the costs of publication, materials and supplies for next year’s class. For more information, contact Fayette County High, 770-460-3540.
