When the Fayette County High Key Club went to the Georgia District Convention they had no idea that they would leave with 10 coveted awards.

Melissa Lee received the Outstanding President Award and the Walter Daven Stapleton III Outstanding Club Officer Award. She was the only one in the state to receive the latter honor that also includes a $1,000 scholarship.

Victoria Lee was given the Sandy Nininger Award for the Most Outstanding State Key Club Board Member, the highest and most prestigious award for a board member to receive. She was also awarded the John B. Cottingham Distinguished Lt. Governor Award, the most prestigious award for a Lt. Governor in the state. Lee will represent Georgia at the International Convention in Boston in July where she will compete against other state winners for the Robert F. Lucas International Distinguished Lt. Governor’s Award.

For the third year in a row, a Fayette County High Key Club member was elected Lt. Governor. Courtney Kennedy will fill the position next year for District 8, which includes Fayette, Coweta, Douglas and Carroll Counties.

Additionally, the club was given the Robert Ben Horner Service to Youth Award for raising over $1,000 for the Georgia Sheriff’s Youth Homes, the Editorial Award for news articles submitted to the state’s newspaper and received first place in the Silver Division for collecting over $2,000 for hurricane relief.

Other honors the club received include second place in the scrapbook competition and recognition for turning in all member dues before the due date.
