A community blood drive will be held Thursday, May 25, from 3 - 9 p.m., at Hopewell United Methodist Church, 351 Jenkins Rd., in Tyrone. Sponsors are the church and LifeSouth, a community blood center. Preregistration is required. Donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds, have a photo ID, have good general health, and must not have donated blood in the last eight weeks. LifeSouth is a nonprofit community blood center providing blood components and services to more than 110 hospitals and health care facilities in Alabama, Florida and Georgia. It was founded in 1974 in Gainesville, Fla. LifeSouth collects, tests and distributes more that 550 units of blood every day, about 200,000 units annually.
