Gym South fights hard in competitive meet

The Gym South Gymnastics Team took on several of the top teams in the state recently and came away with excellent results. The level 5 girls team competed against 18 teams and finished with a record of 10-7 to finish in eighth place overall. They narrowly missed a third place finishas there was only one point difference between third and eighth place.

Individually, Kirstie Barkoot had the highest score of the session with a 36.35. She also came away with first place on Beam and second on vault and floor. Shamira Johnson had her highest score of the year (33.775) and placed 4th on vault with a score of 8.9. Shayla Moore continued her string of 9’s on vault with a 9.25. She has scored a nine every meet this year on vault. On Floor she placed first with a score of 8.75. Lauren Spier also came away with first place All-Around (35.525) and first place on floor(8.7).

For the level 6’s, Kaitlin Barkoot highlighted the meet with a first place finish on floor scoring an 8.8. This was her best score of the year. She also placed sixth in the All-Around. Tori Kinamon equaled Kaitlin’s sixth place finish in the All-Around. Tori scored a 34.65, her best of the year. Alexis Salvanara had her first 9.0 of the year on Balance Beam, which was good enough for fifth place.
