Ippon fields four medalists, places third in tournament

Ippon Judo, Jujitsu and Karate, located in Tyrone Ga., did it again.

Ippon held their seventh semi-annual Ippon Open on April 29 and placed third out of 25 teams. Leading the way was eighth grader Derek Wojcik. He went 10-2 on the day taking a gold in the 13-14 division, a silver in 15-16 and another silver in the 15-16 med. division.

Wojcik’s younger brother, Cody, went 6-3 on the day taking a gold and a silver only losing to people in an older division. Cody is 11 and fought in the 13-14 divsion as well as in his own weight and age group.

Aaron Ringel, a seventh grader at Flat Rock Middle School, recorded a 7-3 day, taking a gold and a bronze.

Ippon’s last competitor to place was Breanna Wojcik taking silver in the 5-6 open division.
Ippon also managed a third place team trophy with some 25 teams being represented.

Also Derek Wojcik won Most Outstanding Jr. Competitor for the state of Georgia for the second time in four years. The title can’t be won two times in a row.
