Local DAR receives top awards at state conference

The Augustin Clayton Daughters of the American Revolution Chapter recently attended the annual state conference which was held in Augusta.

The ladies were recognized for their outstanding efforts on the behalf of promoting patriotism and education in several areas. The chapter was awarded with the first place American History award for the year as well as being recognized for the largest membership increase. Local Fayetteville residents Jackie Baker, recipient of the best report for her activities in promoting conservation, and Bobbie Veal, recipient of the best report for her activities in promoting the U.S. Flag, were honored.

Joining them in receiving honors for their American Heritage artwork were Nancy Collins of Hampton and Ann Eldredge of Peachtree City. Collins won first place in the state for her quilt while Eldredge took first place for her mixed media artwork. Eldredge was also honored for her photography entry into a contest the National DAR holds each year by taking first place in the state. Members Becky Rostron of McDonough and Barbara Florence of Jonesboro were honored as Outstanding Adult Volunteer to Veterans and Outstanding Chapter Regent, respectively.

The Augustin Clayton DAR Chapter represents the tri-county area of Fayette, Henry and Clayton Counties.
