There are four teams from Fayette County left in the AAAAA and AAAA state soccer playoffs; Starr’s Mill’s boys and girls and McIntosh and Whitewater’s girls.

By the time this paper comes out, the Starr’s Mill varsity boys soccer team (16-3) will know if they will be playing for a state championship or not. The Panthers, ranked fourth in AAAAA, faced the Walton Raiders (15-2-2), the second ranked team in AAAAA last night, and will face the winner of the Harrsion/Duluth match on Friday if they win.

Starr’s Mill advanced to the semi-final by defeating Brookwood 1-0 on a goal from Chris Capati. They faced Walton earlier this season and lost 4-1.

In the AAAA boys quarterfinal games, McIntosh (14-5-2) lost to Chamblee 2-0 and Whitewater (13-5-1) lost to Marist 2-1 in penalty kicks.

The Starr’s Mill girls defeated Parkview, the defending state champions, 5-4 on Friday. Kelley O’Hara scored two goals and had two assists, while Carlie Banks added a goal and an assist. Gina Goforth and Katie Jacobsen both scored goals and Tannah Castro added an assist for the fourth ranked Lady Panthers (15-2-1).

They will host the 10th ranked Collins Hill team (15-6) tonight at 7 p.m. Collins Hill opened the season with four straight losses but has won six games in a row on their journey to the state semi-final. The winner of this game will meet the winner of Harrison vs. Newnan.

Fayette County’s girls missed making the final four by losing to Harrison 1-0.

In the AAAA playoffs, McIntosh’s Lady Chiefs (14-5-2), ranked third in AAAA, defeated Forsyth Central 3-0 last Saturday with two goals from Megan O’Rourke and a goal from Kelsey Quinn. The win puts the Lady Chiefs in a semi-final match with Marist (15-5-1), ranked second in AAAA, tonight at 7 p.m. Marist has won four games in a row since falling to St. Pius 2-1. In their five games against opponents ranked in the top 10 in AAAA this season, Marist is 3-2.

The winner of this game will meet the winner of Whitewater and Woodward Academy.

Whitewater’s Lady Wildcats (13-5-1), ranked sixth in AAAA, defeated Lakeside-DeKalb 2-1 on Saturday to give them another shot at Woodward Academy, this time with a trip to the championship on the line. The Lady Wildcats lost in their previous two meetings with the Lady War Eagles (14-4-2), ranked fourth in AAAA, once by a score of 2-0 and once by a score of 6-0. Tongith’s game will be played at Woodward Academy at 6 p.m.
