Fairburn City Administrator Jim Williams said last week the city had not had the time to reconcile the differences between the sewer proposal Fairburn originally sent and the one Tyrone submitted in response. Williams said a long period of time had elapsed between the time Fairburn sent the proposal to Tyrone and the time the Tyrone’s proposal made its way back to Fairburn. Williams added that he expects to communication back with Tyrone in the not too distant future.

In the meantime, Fayette County Board of Education is considering Tyrone’s offer to hook up three area schools to the town’s sewer system, a move that would be less costly than the nearly $10,000 per month the school system pays to operate the wastewater treatment plant on Jenkins Road that currently serves the three schools.

Integrated Science & Engineering ISE) staff said recently that building a new pump would cost $500,000 while decommissioning the Jenkins Road facility would cost $130,000.

On Thursday night, Tyrone City Administrator Barry Amos said that he had talked to Williams this week, but that Fairburn’s administrator had been busy with the massive new shopping center set for Ga. Highway 74. Amos said Williams could not provide a definite day for when the Fairburn City council would discuss the issue.
