Some teams like Starr’s Mill, East Coweta, Fayette County and Landmark Christian know they have made the state playoffs, they just don’t know who they will face when the opening pitch is thrown next Friday. Others, like Sandy Creek and Whitewater, are fighting for their playoff lives. They opened the region playoffs yesterday after the paper went to press and, if they won, they will make the playoffs but seeding won’t be determined until more games have been played.
Here’s what the playoff picture looks like at this time.

Class AAAAA

Starr’s Mill (25-0) won the region title for 4-AAAAA and will host the fourth seed out of Region 3-AAAAA next Friday. That appears to be Jenkins (13-13). The Warriors went 10-6 in region play and did not have a very good finish to the season, going 3-7.

East Coweta will host a first round playoff game after wrapping up the second seed from region 4-AAAAA. It looks like the Indians (18-8, 10-2 region) will host the Glynn Academy Terrors (15-10, 11-4 region). The Terrors have won 11 of their last 12 games and have one more game on their schedule, a match with Groves tonight.

Fayette County (14-10, 6-5 region) captured the third seed in the region and will meet the second seed from region 3-AAAAA on the road next Friday. That appears to be the Brunswick Pirates (18-8, 13-3 region). The Tigers beat the Pirates in the second game of the season but Brunswick has heated up of late, winning six of their last eight games and scoring in double digits in all of those wins.

Class AAAA

Whitewater (14-8, 7-3 sub-region) and Sandy Creek (15-8, 6-4 sub region) need to win their first round games of the region tournament to advance to the Class AAAA state playoffs. If they do, depending on where they finish, they could face a team from region 3-AAAA like Luella, Hardaway, Warner Robins, Griffin or Henry County. Region 3-AAAA is in the process of playing their region tournament now as well.

Class A

Landmark Christian (22-3, 11-3 region) battled Mt. Paran for the second seed from region 5-A last night after the paper went to press. If they won, they will host Temple (14-8) next week and if they lost, they will likely play at Bowdon (17-6, 7-2 region) or Gordon Lee (16-9, 7-2 region) .
