McIntosh and Starr's Mill teams on the road for the playoffs

The McIntosh boys and girls tennis teams won their matches in the first round of the AAAA state playoffs. The boys won 5-0 against Central High in Macon. Qualifying wins were by Austin Tilton, 6-0, 6-0; Joe Styga, 6-0, 6-1 and John Higgins, 6-0. 6-1.

The boys will take on Lakeside-Evans in Macon today and the winner of that match will face the winner of Bainbridge/Chapel Hill.

The girls faced Griffin and won 4-1. Winners in singles were Marybeth Black, 6-0, 6-0 and Stephanie Daughenbaugh, 6-0, 6-1, while doubles winners were Jessica Piester and Lyndsi Tufte, 6-0, 6-0 and Emma Fisher and Keegan Vining, 6-4, 6-0.

The Lady Chiefs will travel to Savannah to take on Evans today.

The winner of that match will face the winner of the Warner Robins/Greenbrier match. The Starr’s Mill girls and boys tennis teams won their first round of state playoffs.

The girls defeated Johnson, Savannah last Thursday, 5-0. Wins went to sophomore Jessica Lange, junior Haley Staples, and sophomore Caroline Smith in singles. In doubles, junior Lindsay Dillon and Faith Hall won, as did sophomore Adriana Acuna and senior Jenna MacPherson.

In boys play, the Panthers defeated Savannah Arts Academy 5-0. In singles, Derrick Davison defeated Jack Webber, 6-0, 6-0; Alex Seath won over Matt Shuman, 6-4, 6-4 and Jordan Bailey defeated Seth Brody, 6-1, 6-0. In doubles play, seniors Keith Kowal and Stefan Maher won over Tracey West and Taylor Mackie, 6-1, 6-2, and the duo of Thomas Davison and Ignacio Donnett won in doubles, 6-2, 6-0 against Thien Winn and Dane Knudsen.

The Starr’s Mill boys and girls tennis teams will travel to Savannah this weekend to play in the sectionals/quarterfinals.

The boys will take on Houston County and the winner of that match will meet the winner of Glynn Academy and Valdosta.

The girls will face the winner of the Morrow/Coffee match and the winner of that match will take on the Glynn Academy/Lowndes winner.

Fayette County’s girls lost in the opening round to Glynn Academy, 3-2. Winners for the Lady Tigers were Kim O’Dell in singles and the doubles team of Kim Webb and Grace Trivett.

The Peachtree City Tennis Center will host over 40 boys and girls high school tennis teams from the state’s five classifications on Friday and Saturday, including Harrison, St. Pius, Walton, Lovett, Wesleyan and many, many more.
