Senior center expansion still on the table in PTC

The members of the Senior Adult Council of Peachtree City would like to respond to a letter recently printed in this column. The letter was apparently written by a senior who is “tired of broken promises” concerning an expansion to the Gathering Place.

If you will recall, the expansion of the Gathering Place was postponed after 9/11 because of the instability of the economy and concern of how that would affect our budget.

Mayor Logsdon and two City Council members, Boone and Plunkett, attended our most recent S.A.C. meeting to share with us the current status of the Gathering Place expansion as well as a possible sharing of a facility with the First Baptist Church.

We were told that the money for our expansion is still in the city budget but that sharing of the facility with the First Baptist Church was also being explored. Mayor Logsdon explained that the solution to the problem is still in the early stages.

The S.A.C. plans to continue to pursue this issue. We will attend City Council meetings when it is to be discussed and we encourage all seniors who are concerned to do likewise. Furthermore, the mayor and City Council members have been invited to our meetings and have frequently attended.

We hope this letter describes this issue to date. We would like everyone to be well informed. If you are concerned about the possible expansion of the Gathering Place, we can use your support at City Council and Senior Adult Council meetings.
