Ongoing construction work will continue on I-85 again this weekend. The run up to the completion of the construction project anticipated for December will see work this weekend along I-85 between I-285 and Ga. Highway 74. The northbound exit ramp at Hwy. 74 and the exit ramp on I-85 northbound at Ga. Highway 138 will be closed beginning Friday at 9 p.m. through Monday at 5 a.m., according to DOT spokesperson Karlene Barron. Also beginning Friday night and ending on Monday at 5 a.m., two right lanes northbound will be closed from Hwy. 138 to Flat Shoals Road. During that period, said Barron, the lanes will open from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Sunday to accommodate returning race fans. “We again encourage motorists to plan ahead as we are anticipating some congestion with race fans returning from the Atlanta Motor Speedway,” said Metro District Construction Engineer Mickey Magahee.” these closures are necessary for us to meet our completion deadlines.” Motorists can visit the DOT website at www.georgia-navigator.com for construction updates and information.
