An armed robbery Wednesday night at Subway in Palmetto left employees physically unharmed and a lone gunman on the lam with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Palmetto Police Det. John Cooper said local authorities are searching for a medium to dark skinned man approximately 5”10”-6’0” in height. The man was wearing a black tee-shirt with white lettering on the front, a blue hat and gray, baggy pants, said Cooper.

Cooper said the man entered the Subway store at approximately 10:40 p.m. and ordered a sandwich. The man jumped the counter carrying a black, automatic handgun while one of the employees on duty was preparing the order, Cooper said. The man forced a second employee to rear of the store and then returned, forcing the remaining employee to give him an undisclosed amount of cash from the register. The man demanded money from the store’s safe but was told that employees were unable to access it.

The man forced the remaining employee into the back room, threatened both employees and fled the store. Neither employee was physically harmed, Cooper said.

Anyone with information relating to the armed robbery is asked to contact Det. John Cooper at (770) 463-9068.
