It’s going to cost a little more for students to eat lunch next year in Coweta County schools.

Last week, The Coweta County Board of Education approved raising school lunch prices for the 2006-07 school year.

When schools open in August, student lunch prices will rise from $1.60 to $2 in high schools, $1.50 to $2 in middle schools, $1.35 to $1.75 in elementary schools and $2.25 to $2.50 for adults and employees.

School spokesman Dean Jackson said the increase was the first since 2001, and was needed because of rising vendor prices. School nutrition programs must be self-sufficient programs, so revenue from meal purchases and federal nutrition program contributions must cover all expenses.
