Coralee Lunsford Gunn

Coralee Lunsford Gunn, formerly of College Park, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2006. She was 95. A memorial service was held Tuesday, April 11, at First Baptist Church, Macon, Georgia, with Dr. Robert Setzer, Jr. officiating. Graveside services followed at the College Park Cemetery in College Park, Georgia with the Rev. Mark Westmoreland officiating.

Mrs. Gunn was born on August 6, 1910, in Weston, Webster County, Georgia. She graduated as Salutatorian from Weston High School and then from Bessie Tift College in 1931. She began her teaching career in Irwinton, Georgia, where Mr. Harold W. Gunn was the Superintendent of Schools. They were married during this time. After moving to College Park, Mrs. Gunn was a stay-at-home mother, supporting activities of her husband and children for many years before returning to teaching. She taught at Marion Smith and Dodson Drive Elementary Schools and then at Headland High School before retiring. During her career she touched and positively influenced literally thousands of lives.

As a member of First Baptist Church of College Park, Mrs. Gunn taught children’s Sunday School and Bible School. She was a member of Women’s Missionary Union there. She also was a member of the College Park Junior Women’s Club. After retiring, she moved to Macon to be near family. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Macon.

Mrs. Gunn was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Webster Gunn; two sisters, Ann Timmie and Effie Belle Lunsford; and her parents Dr. Guy George Lunsford and Mrs. Annie Martin Lunsford. Mrs. Gunn is survived by her son, Guy Gunn and his wife Becky of Macon; daughters, Harriett Jones and her husband Bobby of Monroe, GA; and Margie Wheeler and her husband Jack of Fayetteville, GA; her sister, Mrs. Janie Ris and her husband Charlie of Littleton, CO; six grandchildren: Nancy Jones, Rob Jones and his wife Trish, Leigh Ann Passon and her husband Rick, Alan Wheeler and his wife Julie, Webb Gunn and his wife Tee, Marti Andrews and her husband Lane; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Gunn was the beloved matriarch of her family and remained a strong and vibrant force in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren throughout her life. Her friends and family will miss her musings, thoughtful assistance, unconditional love, and most of all, her heartfelt caring for all.

The family would like to express its thanks to the staff, volunteers, and residences of Morningside Assisted Living and to First Baptist Church of Macon, for their loving care and support. Additional thanks go to the staff of Portsbridge Hospice for their care during the last days.
