McDonough widows

McDonough Road Baptist Church recently gave special attention to members who are widowed. This was the first such event held and over 50 widows attended the luncheon.

The theme was roses, taken from Isaiah 61:3, “...to care for the needs of all who mourn in Zion, give them bouquets of roses instead of ashes.”

Each lady was given a rose bush figurine to take home with her and they all participated in a number of door prize drawings.

The speaker was Becky East, who shared the manner in which she coped with the death of her husband several years ago.

“Before his death,” she said, “I was known as Mrs. Larry East. Now I am known as the woman who lost her husband.”

“He is not lost,” she affirmed, “I know exactly where he is.”

Church Sunday School teachers, Craig and Yumiko Hoyt, let the ladies know that their class stands ready to minister to them by attending to any need they may have.

The 40-50-year-olds will do lawn work, house care, transportation or assist the widows in any way needed.

Chair of the event, Robertine Mitchely, said she was pleased with the turnout and looked forward to holding this luncheon again.
