Are you or a loved one living with the pain and discomfort of uterine fibroids? Piedmont Fayette Hospital is hosting a seminar about Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE), a minimally invasive procedure to treat fibroids.

Scott Faith, M.D., medical director of Radiology Imaging, will lead the discussion, “A Non-surgical Option for Fibroids” on Wednesday, April 26, at 6 p.m. Two UFE patients also will share their story. The seminar and dinner will be held at 1279 Highway 54 West in Conference Room C. This event is free and open to the community. Seating is limited, and reservations are required. For reservations, please call Link2Health toll-free at 1-866-900-4321.

Uterine Fibroid Embolization is often a treatment alternative to hysterectomy or myomectomy. The UFE procedure requires only a local anesthetic, a mild sedative, and there are no stitches. About 25 percent of U.S. women have uterine fibroids severe enough to require treatment, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women’s Health. Women over the age of 30 have a one in three chance of developing fibroids in the uterus. The risk increases for African-American women, who also are more likely to get fibroids at a younger age.

“UFE could be the answer to your fibroid problem,” Dr. Faith said. “Talk to your physician to determine if you are a candidate for UFE.”
