Scott Faith, M.D., medical director of Radiology Imaging, will lead the discussion, “A Non-surgical Option for Fibroids” on Wednesday, April 26, at 6 p.m. Two UFE patients also will share their story. Uterine Fibroid Embolization is often a treatment alternative to hysterectomy or myomectomy. The UFE procedure requires only a local anesthetic, a mild sedative, and there are no stitches. About 25 percent of U.S. women have uterine fibroids severe enough to require treatment, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women’s Health. Women over the age of 30 have a one in three chance of developing fibroids in the uterus. The risk increases for African-American women, who also are more likely to get fibroids at a younger age.
