Army Maj. Alfred Marron has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal for supporting the mission of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The medal is awarded to an individual who, while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, has performed a heroic act, meritorious achievement or distinguished service during armed conflict or ground combat while engaged against an armed enemy of the United States.

While deployed to Baghdad, Marron served as a member of Multinational Security Transition Command-Iraq in a joint-level designated assignment as the Coalition Military Assistance Transition Team, program manager. He managed two multimillion dollar budget programs, the Iraqi Reconstruction and Relief Funds and the Iraqi Security Forces Funds. These funds programs are a critical part of an overall billion dollar plan to rebuild Iraq security forces.

Marron, a finance comptroller, has served in the military for 20 years. He is the son of Irene S. Marron of Chicago, Ill., and husband of Donna L. Marron of Fayetteville, Ga.
