It’s another bad weekend if you want to get from Peachtree City and Tyrone to Atlanta.

Starting at 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday, the northbound on-ramp that leads from Ga. Highway 74 to I-85 will be closed, according to officials from the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Also, the on-ramp leading from I-85 northbound to Ga. Highway 138 in Union City will be closed during the same time frame, officials said.

Motorists are urged to use an alternate route to head into Atlanta, perhaps taking Hwy. 74 further north to U.S. Highway 29 in Fairburn, which can be taken to Hwy. 138 or South Fulton Parkway for access to I-85 northbound.

Two right lanes going northbound will be closed most of the weekend also between Hwy. 138 and Flat Shoals Road, officials said; the only change is they will be open from 6-10 p.m. Sunday to accommodate fans attending the NASCAR race at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton.

The closures are necessary to finish the massive reconstruction project that involves the replacement of pavement in all north and south lanes on I-85 stretching from Hwy. 74 to Ga. Highway 279 (Old National Highway).
