Could a small subdivision sprout up in the heart of historic Senoia?

That’s one of the possibilities city leaders in Senoia are considering for the old public works building on Clark Street.

During Monday night’s City Council meeting, city administrator Richard Ferry told the council the site had been surveyed and the tract is just over 4.7 acres. Ferry said the options for the site include building homes or perhaps an extension of the city’s park system.

If the city decides to sell the property to a developer, Ferry said, any homes built on the site would have to conform with the historic architectural guidelines of the city.

Mayor Robert Belisle said there was a possibility that six homes could be placed on the site. Developer Bob Rolader, who was at the council meeting to get approval of another subdivision, said building lots were going for nearly $60,000 an a acre in the city.

Councilman Bill Wood suggested the city post an announcement on the city’s Web page for suggestions on development of the site.

“Somebody might have an idea that we haven’t though of,” he added.

Ferry also said he would post a flyer in City Hall seeking suggestions from residents who may not have access to the Internet.
