‘Code’ is fiction, no more

Dr. Dial, I find it sad that the only thing you got from reading “The Da Vinci Code” was that Jesus Christ’s deity was in question.

The main thing you seemed to miss - even though you mention it a few times in your letter - is the fact that this book is fiction.

You can continue to recite as many biblical quotes as you want, but the fact is the book is fiction with a factual topic.

When I read “Gone with the Wind,” I certainly didn’t go hunting for Tara. It too was a novel based on a factual topic.

I highly doubt after reading the book, or watching the movie, you’ll see this great influx of people flying to Paris in search of the Holy Grail or people doubting their Christian faith.

There will always be a small group of people that see truth in fiction. Look at the movie “The Blair Witch Project.” Even though the producers themselves, on television and in interviews, openly admitted this was all a hoax, there was a following that the woods these college students went into were really haunted.

I am Catholic and read “The Da Vinci Code.” What I found was it was well-written and compelling, one of the best murder mystery novels I have ever read. It is certainly not making me doubt my faith.

Don’t put more into things than are meant to be. Just learn to enjoy things for what they are - entertainment. Personally, I can’t wait for the movie to be released.
