Girl Scout Day at Newnan Theatre Company

Nearly 100 Girl Scouts got star treatment at Newnan Theatre Company recently. Brownie troops from the Girl Scouts of Pine Valley were entertained while learning some basic acting, costuming and stage makeup skills. Later in the day they had the chance to entertain their friends.

NTC Board President and Girl Scout Day coordinator Laurel Alford says that Xtras!, NTC’s teen theatre group, presented a short melodrama for the girls, “and volunteers from East Coweta High School’s EchoStage group performed solos from several Broadway shows— ‘The Wiz,’ ‘Beauty & the Beast’ and ‘Annie’.”

The volunteers then divided the girls into three groups. Each learned a song and dance from one of the three shows, made simple costumes and performed for each other. “NTC has been providing this opportunity for local Girl Scout troops for the past three or four years,” Laurel adds. “We’re happy to extend this offer to other groups for similar events.”
