Oak Grove Elementary celebrated the importance of mathematics in our everyday lives with a daylong “Magic of Math” celebration March 30. The school’s Math Task Force, led by Instructional Support Teacher Lynn Shirley, sponsored the day.

All Pre-K through 5th grade students participated in the day’s math activities. They included a school-wide estimation contest and a problem solving challenge called The Great Race. The students raced to solve real life problems and participated in activities after successfully completing them.

Classes “teamed up” to work on math activities and basic facts were practiced in the cafeteria during lunch. The day ended with magician Ken Scott showing the importance of math in our lives. It was truly a “mathnificent” day for all the students and staff of Oak Grove Elementary.
