McIntosh Adopt-a-Stream

On Saturday, March 18, the McIntosh High School Adopt-A-Stream student volunteers and Peachtree City were recognized by the Environmental Protection Division (EPD) of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources for their joint efforts in protecting the local watersheds.

The forty-two volunteers from McIntosh High School Adopt-A-Stream (AAS) Program were awarded the Adopt-A-Stream’s 2006 Excellence in Data Collection. The volunteers in the program spend a total of almost 1,550 hours a year training and collecting monthly chemical/quarterly biological data at their assigned stream testing sites. Their efforts and reports ultimately become part of the overall EPD statewide database.

Peachtree City received the Adopt-A-Stream’s Annual Watershed Award for the city’s excellence developing a comprehensive Storm Water Management Program to better protect city’s watersheds.

The awards were presented at the annual Environmental Education Alliance of Georgia Awards luncheon held in conjunction with their conference at the Simpsonwood Conference Center in Norcross.

Representing the McIntosh High School Adopt-A-Stream Program were Bryan Humlie, Morgan Hickson, Patrick McAllister, Naeha Patel and Nicole De Lisle. Accepting the award for Peachtree City was Mark Caspar from the engineering department.
