Landmark tops Mercy in region match

Landmark Christian traveled to meet Our Lady of Mercy on Thursday evening. The War Eagles struck early and never looked back.

In the first inning, Landmark scored four runs with Tommy Kinney driving in the first run with a single, Ryan Lloyd driving in two with a one out single and Aaron Statham driving in one with a single as well. Kinney allowed a hit in the bottom of the inning but got out of a jam when Mervy’s Doc Lee hit into a double play.

Landmark, which went through their batting order for the second consecutive inning, would add four more in the frame. Statham drove in two more runs, reaching on an error, Luke Griffith added one more with a single and Miles King scored on an error. Mercy struck back in the bottom of the inning when William Pearl hit an RBI single.

The score would remain 8-1 until the fifth inning when Kinney hit an RBI double and later scored on an error. In the sixth, King, Brandon Belveal and and Michael Leonard each drove in a run. Kinney shut down the Bobcats in the bottom of the inning and the War Eagles won 13-1.
Kinney scattered five hits over six innings and struck out seven batters.

Landmark (14-2) will host Whitefield Academy on Tuesday at 5 p.m., while Mercy (6-8) will play at Mt. Zion, Carroll at 5 p.m.

Creekside (1-12) was scheduled to face Haralson County on Monday but the game was cancelled. The Seminoles will play at Alexander at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Sandy Creek (11-3) has won six games in a row. The Patriots defeated Haralson County 5-4 last Friday and followed it with a 19-3 win over Lithia Springs on Monday and two wins over Cairo at Middle Georgia College on Wednesday, 16-1 and 11-1. Robert Jaracz picked up the win against Haralson County as his teammates scored two in the bottom of the sixth for the win. In the Lithia Springs game, Duncan Midkiff got the win as the Patriots scored in every inning and out hit the Lions 11-3.

Sandy Creek will play at Chapel Hill on Tuesday and will host Douglas County on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
