Looking at the cast list for Offshoot Productions’ presentation of “The Frog Prince,” one can easily imagine how lively the show will be. Written by Paige Steadman and currently in development by the company, the play boasts a cast of seasoned professionals who have performed for children and adults alike.

The title role is held by B. Paul McClain, who earned an M.F.A. in acting from the University of Florida. His credits include work with the Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, Soulstice Repertoire and the Horizon Theatre. Celia, the tomboyish princess who befriends him, is played by Dawn Peterson, who has performed for the Academy Theatre in Atlanta, Marietta’s Telltale Theatre, and Savannah’s Jenkins Theatre, among other venues. She holds a B.A. in theatre from Armstrong Atlanta State University.

The role of Celia’s mother, the Queen, is shared by Wendy Fulton-Adams and Betty Mitchell. Fulton-Adams, whom audiences will remember from Offshoot’s “But Was It Murder?” and “The Pied Piper,” appeared in many shows in the Chicago area, ranging from opera to comedy, and has a B.F.A. from the Professional Actors’ Training Studio, University of Illinois, Champaign. Betty Mitchell is a familiar face in the Atlanta area, having performed most recently at the Neighborhood Playhouse and the Process Theatre. She has also worked with Working Title Playwrights, Theatre Gael, Kaiser Permanente Educational Theatre, Synchronicity, and Onstage Atlanta.
“The Frog Prince,” which plays May 12 and 13 at the Roger Spencer Community Center, 145 Commerce Drive, Tyrone, is a participation play, which means that children in the audience have an opportunity to act alongside the professional performers. For example, some children may play the roles of swamp animals or young lords and ladies.

Performances are Friday, May 12, at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, May 13, at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. The Saturday evening performance is a benefit for Promise Place (formerly, the Council on Domestic Violence).

Admission will be $10 for the general public and $8 for children 10 and under, and includes a snack and beverage. Tickets will be available in advance by April 20 at the Peachtree City Library 770-631-2520, and the Tyrone Recreation Department, 770-487-4694.
