MS walk is Saturday

Peachtree City Erin Hawkins and her husband Jack are leading a team of supporters at this weekend’s MS Walk in Marietta.

Big things are expected of the team, dubbed “Erin’s Fight,” as the team raised $10,900 in 2004 and last year raised $12,640.

Erin, who has Multiple Sclerosis, is active in supporting national research for a cure as well as programs and services offered by the Georgia chapter of the National MS Society.

The walk is taking place at the square in downtown Marietta starting at 10 a.m. Registration begins at 8 a.m.

The society serves more than 8,500 residents in Georgia with direct financial assistance, respite care, transportation, MS clinics, self-help groups and peer counseling, community information and referrals, education, chapter publications, and recreational and social programs. The Georgia chapter also conducts in-service training for healthcare professionals to advance their knowledge of MS.

Out of every dollar raised, 81 cents goes toward local programs and services and national research for a cure.
