Citizens are being invited to offer comments on the performance of the Peachtree City Police Department as part of its re-evaluation for national accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc.

Comments will be received at a public information session May 1 at 7 p.m. at City Hall in Peachtree City. Those who cannot attend may make comments by calling 770-631-2513 May 1 from 1-5 p.m.

The comments are limited to five minutes each and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA standards. A copy of those standards is available at the department, which is located at 350 Ga. Highway 74 south between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Written comments may also be sent to CALEA at 10302 Eaton Place, Suite 100, Fairfax, Va., 22030-2215.

The department will be inspected by a team of CALEA assessors that will review the department’s policies and procedures in addition to administration, operations and support services.

The department must meet 291 mandatory standards and 80 percent of 105 non-mandatory standards to maintain its accredited status.

“Being accredited is an honor for both our department and the citizens we serve,” said Chief James V. Murray. “The accreditation process has guided our efforts to provide the citizens of Peachtree City with the highest quality of service while maintaining a community policing perspective. As a result, and in cooperation with citizen volunteers and civic organizations, Peachtree City remains one of the safest communities in the United States and a community our citizens are proud to call home.”

The department’s accreditation manager is Capt. Rosanna Dove. The department was initially accredited in November 1992 and later re-accredited in 1997, 2000 and 2003.
