The Newnan-Coweta Historical Society announced today that a portion of the early American West will be traveling east in April when the Society hosts the traveling exhibit “Documenting the Corps of Discovery.” This exhibit features an extraordinary collection of primary documents, interpretative resources, art, and artifacts that provide a wealth of information about the Lewis and Clark expedition.

The exhibit, which is on loan from the Montana Historical Society, is on display at the History Center at 60 East Broad Street through April 28. The days and hours of operation are Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

Mark Mitchell, president of the Newnan-Coweta Historical Society said, “We are pleased to be able to bring this collection of materials to Newnan and Coweta County. This will be the exhibit’s only stop in Georgia, and we are excited to be able to take part in the celebration of the 200th anniversary of Lewis and Clark’s extraordinary journey. Many people don’t realize that Meriwether Lewis lived in Georgia for several years when he was a child, so we have a unique connection to this expedition.”
