Teams enjoy wins over spring breakThu, 04/06/2006 - 12:57pm

It hasn’t been a spring break filled with days on the beach, but a number of local teams have had a lot of fun this week by picking up some nice region wins.
Starr’s Mill took on both Mundy’s Mill and Lovejoy earlier this week and also got a win over Union Grove last Friday to stay undefeated. The Panthers defeated the Wolverines of Union Grove 2-0 with Spencer Shelton going 3-for-3 with an RBI and Brian Fletcher going 2-for-3 with a home run. Andrew Robinson picked up the win on the mound. On Monday, Starr’s Mill defeated Mundy’s Mill 9-1 with Bryan Daniels getting the win and Robinson driving in two runs while going 3-for-4 at the plate. Ben Baker went 4-for-5 in the win. On Wednesday, the Panthers won 16-6. Robinson hit a grand slam, Fletcher and Baker each hit a home run and Lee Jones got the win on the mound. The Panthers (15-0) hosted Milton yesterday after the paper went to press and will play at East Coweta at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Indians (9-5) got wins over Fayette County, 20-6, and Newnan, 9-2 this week. Brandon Behenna hit a grand slam against the Tigers on Monday as the East Coweta bats came alive as region play began. They are 2-0 in the region and will play at Union Grove next Wednesday, giving them two huge region games within the space of three days. In 4-AAAA action, McIntosh (6-8) which produced wins over Creekside, 10-2, and Chapel Hill, 10-8, last week bounced back from a 10-0 loss to Jonesboro on Tuesday to pick up an 8-3 win over Villa Rica on Wednesday. In their six wins this year, the Chiefs are averaging 12 runs a game. Unfortunately, in their eight losses, they are averaging under two runs a game. One big player for the Chiefs in recent games is Jake Tanis, who was hitting over .450 last week and went 4-for-4 in the Creekside game with 2 RBIs. Brendan Hall hit a home run in the Creekside game and also drove in two runs. The McIntosh defense, particularly outfielders Jarrod Parker, Drew Webb and Cameron Rich, have played well in the recent wins. McIntosh will play at Haralson County on Tuesday and will host Lithia Springs at 5:30 p.m. next Thursday. Whitewater’s Wildcats (8-6) lost to Villa Rica 3-1 on Monday but bounced back with a 19-9 win over Haralson County on Tuesday. The Wildcats led 1-0 early after Miles Head delivered a sacrifice fly RBI in the bottom of the first. haralson batted around in the third and scored eight runs but Whitewater also batted around and scored nine runs. Four of the runs were driven in by Justin Carpenter who hit an RBI triple and a three run home run (the team’s first this season), in the inning. Ryan Johnson, Jordan Elder and Jonah jaurigue also drove in runs. The Wildcats would bat around once again in the fourth adding six runs and then adding three more in the fifth. Head and Jaurigue would each drive in more runs, as would Ryan Gilreath. Heine Rivera picked up his first varsity win as a pitcher. Whitewater will play at Alexander next Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Northgate (12-3) defeated Chapel Hill 7-2 and got big hits from Chad Basma, B.J. Pointer, Will Smith and Ryan ovacs in the win. The Vikings will play at Douglas County on Tuesday and will host Villa Rica at 5 p.m. on Thursday. Sandy Creek (11-3) has won six games in a row. The Patriots defeated Haralson County 5-4 last Friday and followed it with a 19-3 win over Lithia Springs on Monday and two wins over Cairo at Middle Georgia College on Wednesday, 16-1 and 11-1. Sandy Creek will play at Chapel Hill on Tuesday and will host Douglas County on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. In Class A action, Landmark Christian (13-2) got a 14-4 win over Galloway and followed it with a 17-1 win over Mt. Zion, Carroll. Our Lady of Mercy (6-7) also got a win over Galloway over the break, 9-6. Owen Anderson threw three scoreless innings in relief and also went 4-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. The War Eagles and Bobcats met Thursday afternoon after the paper went to press. login to post comments |
