Local firm helps patients understand CT scans

Computed tomography, also known as CT or CAT scan, is a medical imaging device that combines the use of x-rays with computers to produce images that allow physicians to look inside a patient's body. A CT scan can produce clear and extremely detailed pictures of the body's internal structures. It can separate bone from muscle and fat in the part of the body being examined.

For some people, the above is little more than an interesting fact. But if you are a patient undergoing a CT scan, perhaps for the first time, imagine the relief at having someone explain to you what is about to happen in terms you can understand.

That is the experience you will have at OutPatient Imaging, Peachtree City’s source for the latest state of the art technology in medical imaging. Here, the caring and knowledgeable staff will make sure you feel comfortable with the many imaging procedures they offer.

These procedures include digital fluoroscopy, vascular and general ultrasound, CT scanning, calcium scoring, x-rays, high field MRI, bone density and mammography.

In addition to having the most up to date radiological equipment, patients will rest easy knowing the interpretations and details for each exam at OPI are rendered by board certified radiologists. Subspecialty radiologists are also on staff to provide additional expertise.

“An on-site radiologist is always available for physician consultations, who can tailor each exam to the specific patient and diagnostic question,” said OPI’s Dr. Ho Lin. “In many instances, radiation dosage can be limited or an alternate study may yield more diagnostic information.”

Equally important to providing the best medical imaging is the convenience and comfort of the exam. With this in mind, OPI strives to create a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere in its Peachtree City office, from the cozy waiting room to providing a window in the MRI scanner room to lessen patient anxiety. Scheduling of exams is based on patient convenience as the priority.

“Some exams require patients to fast beforehand and hence such exams will be preferentially scheduled for the mornings,” Dr. Ho Lin explained. “We promise short waits and rapid reporting of exams, and our outstanding staff can take care of insurance questions and pre-certifications for the exams.”

Without long appointment times and hence earlier diagnoses, OPI can provide digital x-rays which, once taken, can be manipulated so that additional images may not be required. A digital fluoroscopy unit is also on site to provide GI diagnostic work-up or lower back pain management. The helical CT scanner is available for imaging from head to toe. Up to date software packages allow for cardiac scoring and 3-D reconstruction of images. Having a radiologist always on site allows OPI to perform IV contrasted or urgent studies without delay.

Bone Density Machine

Two new procedures offered at OPI include mammography, allowing both screening and diagnostic examinations to be performed with ultrasound, and bone density exams, which help aid in the diagnosis of osteoporosis. Patients who are scheduled for a radiology procedure, or those who wish to know more about the services offered by OPI, can find a wealth of information by visiting www.outpatient-imaging.com. Here, you will find a comprehensive history of each procedure offered by OPI, including how each procedure was developed and how it has improved over the years. In addition, preparation steps for undergoing each type of exam are also outlined on this Web site, advising patients whether or not they can eat prior to exams and what type of clothing is best to wear.

OutPatient Imaging is conveniently located at 10 Eastbrook Bend in Peachtree City, just off Ga. Highway 54.
