As of late Friday, 243 families have sought assistance from the Fayette County Department of Family and Children Services, which is helping those who have fled here from hurricane ravaged areas.
The Fayette community has responded with $37,410 in gift cards that have been dispersed to families to buy food, clothing, medicine and gas.
Housing arrangements are being made for some of the families who arent staying with family members or friends, officials said. Some are being placed in apartments, others in homes.
If you have available housing that can be used by a family that has fled Hurricane Katrina, call Becky Smith of Fayette FACTOR at 404-291-1602.
While the local DFCS offices were closed Saturday and Sunday, workers helped process families who were being sheltered at the Federal Emergency Management Agency Super Center in College Park.
