Site plans for two recently proposed businesses along the Ga. Highway 74 corridor were approved March 27 by the Fairburn City Council. Council members approved plans for an indoor soccer complex on Oakley Industrial Boulevard and a small animal hospital on Hwy. 74 near the Fayette County line. Peachtree City-based Score Indoor Sports will construct a 48,000 square-foot indoor soccer complex on a four-acre site along Oakley Industrial between Hwy. 74 and Bohannon Road. The facility will include two 80-foot by 180-foot soccer fields, a 50-foot by 80-foot training field, concession area and restrooms. Score Indoor Sports owners said the complex is designed primarily for team and tournament play rather than for spectating, though some bleacher accommodations will be provided. Playing surfaces will be outfitted with the latest generation Astroturf and high illumination lighting, they said. “I think this will be a dynamite attraction for this area,” City Administrator Jim Williams told council members. At a meeting of Fairburn Planning & Zoning commission earlier in March, Planning & Zoning Coordinator Gail Denman said the city had received inquiries about the possibility of commercial recreational facilities being located in the area. Though in proximity to large warehouse facilities further down Oakley, Denman said council members had previously adopted an ordinance that permitted commercial recreational uses for the area where the soccer complex would be located. Council members March 27 also approved the site plan for a 4,144 square-foot small animal clinic to be located south of Milam Road and just north of the Fayette County line. Owned by Peachtree City veterinarian Dr. Vince Obsitnik, the small animal clinic will be situated on .73 acres and will include a 4,144 square-foot building with space for an additional 1,500 square feet if needed. “The 74 Corridor is a major thoroughfare,” Williams said. “This development will generate the first impression as people enter Fairburn traveling north. It will be quite a showplace for the community.” login to post comments |
