The aftermath of a wreck on Ga. Highway 74 in Tyrone left the highway blocked for about five hours Monday afternoon.

A car crashed into support poles for traffic lights at the intersection of Hwy. 74 and Dogwood Trail, sending the lights’ poles crashing down across the highway, said Tyrone Police Chief Johnny Hay. This is the second time this has happened in two months at Dogwood and Hwy. 74.

During the delay traffic between Peachtree City and Tyrone was routed along Senoia Road. While it took five hours to completely re-open Hwy. 74, it took another three hours to reopen Dogwood Trail fully, Hay said.

The driver of the 1997 Lexus involved in the crash was identified by police as Brian Albert Campbell, 34, of Peachtree City. He was going north on Hwy. 74 around 10 a.m. when his vehicle left the right side of the road and struck the pole, Hay said.

Campbell was not seriously injured.
