Teams will stay busy over spring breakThu, 03/30/2006 - 1:51pm
By: Michael Boylan
The Starr’s Mill Panthers (12-0) found themselves ranked first in the GaSports.com coaches poll this week. Many people around the program state that Coach Brent Moseley doesn’t like that kind of attention and who can blame him. He’d much rather not focus on polls during the season and be ranked first at the end of the season when it counts. The Panthers did not have a game this week until tonight when they host Union Grove (12-2). Starr’s Mill will play several games over spring break, facing Mundy’s Mill (9-4) on the road on Monday at 4 p.m. and hosting Lovejoy (2-8) at 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Most of the other local teams did have games this week and the results were mixed. Northgate (10-2) defeated McIntosh (3-7) in a pitching duel on Monday. Will Smith was the winning pitcher and Chad Basma and Matt Gillis drove in runs in the win, while McIntosh’s Jake Tanis hit a solo home run for the Chiefs. Northgate will play at Whitewater on Saturday for their only game over the break. In other games this week, Fayette County (8-5) lost to East Paulding 5-2 on Tuesday night. The Tigers will host East Coweta on Monday and that will be their only game over the break. Whitewater hosts Douglas County (1-9) tonight at 7 p.m. and will host Northgate at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow. They will play at Villa Rica (7-4) on Monday at 5:30 p.m. and will host Haralson County (4-4) at 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Landmark Christian (11-2) lost to Mt. Paran (9-2) 11-10 last Friday in 10 innings. The War Eagles hosted Galloway (1-9) last night after the paper went to press and will play at Mt. Zion, Carroll (4-6) today at 4:30 p.m. Landmark will face their local rivals the Our Lady of Mercy Bobcats (5-5) on Thursday on the road at 5 p.m. The Bobcats defeated Whitefield Academy 2-1 on Wednesday. They will take on Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy (12-0), ranked first in Class A, today at 4:15 p.m. and will host Heritage Christian tomorrow at noon. Our Lady of Mercy will also host Galloway on Tuesday of next week at 5 p.m. login to post comments |
