Teams seeking region wins before spring break

After being handed losses last Friday, the McIntosh boys and girls soccer teams traveled to Coweta County on Tuesday and picked up some wins. The Lady Chiefs (7-5) faced Newnan (5-6) and won 3-2 with Olivia Tucker, Bethany Austin and Jessalyn Moore scoring goals. Tucker and Meghan O’Rourke also recorded assists in the win. Coach Marcia Clark also credited captains Brittany Schneider, Caroline Austin and Kelsey Quinn with playing well and helping the team fire up their intensity level throughout the match.

The Lady Chiefs, ranked sixth in AAAA, had a huge game yesterday afternoon after the paper went to press when they hosted the top ranked Lady War Eagles of Woodward Academy.

The boys team (7-3-1) faced Northgate (2-8-2) and won 7-0. Scorers for McIntosh were Andy Summerville (3), Derek Farnsworth (2) and Michael Mateos (2). Bilal Duckett, Ben Reyes and Farnsworth all recorded assists. The Chiefs, ranked sixth in AAAA, also faced Woodward Academy (7-2) last night. The War Eagles are ranked second in AAAA and defeated the Chiefs in the AAAA championship game last season. Northgate’s boys and girls (5-7) hosted Lovejoy last night.

Starr’s Mill’s boys (8-3), ranked fifth in AAAAA, faced Newnan (7-4) on Tuesday night and won 2-1. Riley Phelps scored both goals for the Panthers, while Jesy Phelps recorded an assist. Coach Mike Hanie stated that the defense played well, mentioning the play of Brandon mcmillan, Sam martin, Chris Metzger, Chris Pecca, Nick Fevella and Paul Trinquero. The Panthers played at Union Grove (7-6-1) last night after the paper went to press. The Lady Panthers (7-2-1), ranked fifth in AAAAA, were off on Tuesday and also played at Union Grove last night.

East Coweta’s Lady Indians (12-1) hosted Sandy Creek (3-6-2) yesterday. The East Coweta boys team (6-6-1) played at Alexander on Tuesday and lost 2-1. They will host Berkmar (2-8) tonight at 7:30 p.m.

Fayette County’s boys and girls defeated Union Grove on Tuesday night. The Lady Tigers (9-4) defeated the Lady Wolverines (7-5-2) 4-0, while the boys (10-2-1) beat Union Grove 5-0.

Whitewater’s Lady Wildcats (7-2-1), ranked fourth in AAAA, traveled to take on Shiloh (8-3), ranked eighth in AAAAA, on Tuesday and won 1-0. Jordan Brown scored the goal and goalkeeper Lisa Wilson made some great saves. According to coach Heather Allen, Katie Schwarz and Caitlin beale played good on defense and freshmen Emily Culbreth and Lacey McGowan outhustled Shiloh consistently. They played at McEachern (9-2) last night. The Whitewater boys (8-3), ranked third in AAAA, lost to Shiloh, ranked third in AAAAA, 4-1. They played at Creekside (1-8) last night.
