Tyrone has a land use plan that should be foundational for decisions affecting future growth. In addition, however, consideration should be given for infrastructure support and the impact adjoining municipalities and counties will have on Tyrone’s future (and present!). Questions to be addressed should include what road improvements are needed? Where should parks be located and what recreation should be included to support ALL our residents? How are we engaged with the Department of Transportation (for example, on-off access for I-85 at the Cannongate-Palmetto Road or 92 to minimize the impact to Castlewood and 74, respectively)? How is the current zoning to be integrated with subsequent land use design? To successfully manage this process, integrated planning, not only with the Fayette County Commissioners but also the Fayette Board of Education, is required (Burch Elementary is already beyond capacity. It is VERY likely that redistricting will impact Tyrone Elementary). Furthermore, open dialogue and joint planning with Peachtree City and Fairburn for the traffic management of 74 is imperative. To do our part of energy conservation, how about being able to go through TWO traffic lights without stopping? If this resonates with your thinking, please consider voting for me on Nov. 8.
