A recurring theme among candidates in last week’s Forum was quality growth. If elected to Post 4, I’ll work hard to seek input from all Tyrone’s citizens and businesses in completing a full Comprehensive Plan update as required by the Atlanta Regional Commission. Tyrone must submit this update by October 2006 and have adopted by February 2007. I propose we start working together on completing this plan prior to the recommended deadline. Having a Comprehensive Plan with citizen and business input is invaluable in providing guidance on rezoning decisions. Our current plan was adopted in 1992 and needs updating. I bring the necessary energy, enthusiasm, and leadership to get this much needed plan accomplished. On infrastructure issues, I will ensure Tyrone meets all new Federal Phase II Storm-water Regulations by December of 2006. These regulations require six minimum control measures and include among others, provisions for public involvement and participation, construction site storm-water runoff control, and post construction storm-water management. To ensure compliance with these regulations, I will make adequate staffing available for enforcement. While not perfect, recent efforts by Tyrone towards revitalizing downtown are a step in the right direction. Accomplishing this will require extensive infrastructure improvements including an alternative to septic systems. According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Tyrone is located in an area identified as having significant areas of groundwater recharge. Because of these environmental concerns, off-site centralized wastewater treatment alternatives should be explored as a way of servicing downtown Tyrone’s revitalization. As a consulting engineer, I’ve completed both of these type projects for other communities in Georgia and can offer guidance on accomplishing in a cost effective manner here in Tyrone. I also think it’s important for the citizens and businesses in Tyrone to feel they are receiving quality service for a fair price. To this end, I pledge to be very involved in our budget process and seek ways to reduce our millage rate while maintaining the level of service we’re all accustomed to. I look forward to serving you on Tyrone’s council and again thank you for your time and interest. If you have any questions, please contact me directly at 678-870-3013 (office) or 770-900-5510 (cell). I believe quality representation begins with communication. I would love to hear from you. login to post comments |
