Harry Andrea Jones had his day in court. When it was done, he found was guilty of felony murder and aggravated assault and sentenced to life plus 15 years.

The 37 year-old Union City resident was found guilty of the May 4, 2005 murder of Nik Nak Convenience Store clerk Sham Suddin, who had recently moved to the area from Houston and had only been employed at the store for two weeks. The store is located at Roosevelt Highway and High Point Road.

Suddin was found shot inside the store at approximately 6:40 a.m. when a customer entered after having been nearly run over as the perpetrator was fleeing the location, Union City Police Sgt. George Louth said at the time of the incident.

Suddin was transported to Grady Hospital and died later that morning during surgery for a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Louth said the Police Department received information on the suspect after local television stations responded to the department’s request to air information about the crime and request public assistance.

A witness told officers he had seen a man running west on High Point Road shortly after the shooting. Acting on large amount of useful information supplied by other residents officers began searching Premier Club Apartments on High Point Road. Jones was located inside one of the apartments, Louth said.

Jones was initially arrested for murder, armed robbery, possession of cocaine, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Jerry Baxter presided at the trial.
