An estimated $28,000 was raised for Fayette County’s free medical clinic at a benefit last weekend at Glendalough Manor in Tyrone.

The infusion of cash will allow the facility to open soon, hopefully in April, organizers said. The Fayette CARE Clinic will provide basic medical and dental care for uninsured and underinsured residents of Fayette County.

CARE in the organization’s moniker stands for “Compassion And Respect for Everyone.”

The clinic building is located on Ga. Highway 54 just off Sumner Road between Peachtree City and Fayetteville. Plans are for it to be open initially one evening a week with that schedule expanding if necessary.

A number of local physicians and nurses have already signed up to volunteer their time at the clinic, and there have been numerous donations of supplies and equipment. Piedmont Fayette Hospital has agreed to handle all lab work for the clinic free of charge.

Funds raised at last Friday’s event will allow the facility to be completed and opened once the county building department inspects it and grants a certificate of occupancy.

The fund-raiser was sponsored by TCG Holdings Inc. and Glendalough Manor.
