For the next week, Tyrone residents will get to have their say about Shamrock Park.

Council members Gloria Furr and Grace Caldwell are going to door to door this weekend with a survey to elicit comments about the downtown park. The survey runs through March 31 and a copy of the survey can also be found on page A2. The survey will ask residents what the park should look like and what type of activities should occur.

The survey sparked contention from one Town Councilman during the March 16 Town Council meeting. The results of the survey will be brought back to the council in May.

“I don’t understand why it’s going to take more than a month to count those surveys,” said Councilman Mike Smola.

Smola also didn’t think a big enough number of residents would fill out the survey to present an accurate sample.

“Well have plenty of people filling it out,” said Councilman Grace Caldwell.”

Smola didn’t believe her.

“You’ll probably have members of the Tyrone Neighborhood Alliance filling out 10 each,” he said.

“That was totally uncalled for,” retorted Caldwell.

Residents have until March 31 to fill out the sample and turn it in to town officials.
