A traffic stop in Fayetteville last week resulted in the arrest of two men suspected of stealing items from cars in Fayetteville, Union City, Atlanta and Morrow, police said.

The two occupants of the car were arrested March 15 for stealing a purse from a vehicle parked at the Fayette Corners Shopping Center on Ga. Highway 85, police said. A subsequent search of the car turned up credit cards, cell phones and other items that have been linked to entering auto cases in several nearby cities, police said.

Other items related to those cases were found later when police from Fayetteville, Morrow and Fulton County served search warrants on the suspects’ homes.

The driver, Terry Lee Avery, 23 of Cascade Road, Atlanta, was charged with entering an auto, possession of tools for the commission of a crime and speeding, police said. The passenger, Lamond Warner, 24, of Cascade Road, Atlanta, was charged with entering an auto and possession of tools for the commission of a crime, police said.

The contact with Avery and Warner was the result of a minor traffic violation when they were pulled over by Fayetteville officer David Webb, police said.

Fayetteville Police are encouraging residents to lock their cars and also to make sure their valuables are not left in the vehicle to tempt a would-be thief.
