Paris has a “Fever”Tue, 03/21/2006 - 9:01pm
By: Emily Baldwin
Paris Bennett came out strong tonight on the performance show of “American Idol.” The theme for tonight’s show was the 1950’s, and contestants were charged with performing songs from the decade of early rock and roll. Bennett is the 17-year-old contestant who was a senior at Starr’s Mill High School before heading out to Hollywood. She donned a satin yellow dress and a curly up-do with a matching yellow flower tucked behind her right ear. Bennett performed the 1958 song “Fever” by Peggy Lee, and she had the audience on their feet with her steamy rendition. This is the second time television viewers watched Bennett perform “Fever.” During “Hollywood week” Bennett crooned the 50’s song a cappella. Judges agreed with the audience when it came time for her critique. Randy Jackson said, “You blew it out of the box.” He also said she demonstrated experience beyond her 17 years. Judge Paula Abdul seconded Jackson’s opinion when she told Bennett, “You look phenomenal, you dressed the part. Your vocals were phenomenal.” Simon Cowell also felt Bennett nailed the performance and said of it,“This is what you do best. You have the perfect voice for that song.” To help keep Bennett in the running to be America’s next “Idol” you can vote for her by calling 1-866-IDOLS-03 (1-866-43657-03) for two hours after the show airs. Check back tomorrow night to find out if Bennett will make it into a top 10 finalist spot. login to post comments |
