Oppose New Hope Rd. rezoning planTue, 10/25/2005 - 4:15pm
By: Letters to the ...
In May 1985, I moved my family to Fayetteville. We were drawn to the area for its rural atmosphere, and the fact that it was by Georgia’s standards a blue chip community. My child was educated at Fayette County High School, [which is] from our perspective one of the best school systems in Georgia. Over the years, our family has experienced a quality of life that many surrounding counties can only envy. Our roots run deep. Our home is located at 1019 New Hope Rd. in Fayetteville near the intersection of Ga. Highway 92 North. It is a quite and peaceful place that we cherish very deeply. It’s our home and sanctuary. The land around us (39.03 acres) is wide-open pasture land with no trees or buffers. This property is being presented to the Fayette County Board of Commissioners for a rezoning. The petitioner is requesting to rezone 39.03 gross acres from A-R to R-45 to develop 31 single-family dwelling lots ranging from 1.0 to 1.5 acres. In reality, it will be 31 homes on 35 acres with 3.90 acres being reserved for infrastructure and improvements. Our two acres and home is in the middle of this proposed rezoning. We are calling upon the help of our neighbors countywide to support our family and community in opposing this rezoning. [We are] asking the Board of Commissioners to require the developer to create a new subdivision proposal, a plan that will not allow the backyards of eight new homes to surround three sides of our family’s existing home all from within 40 to 20 feet of our property line. The layout will be like a horseshoe effect. We have been given no consideration of the impact this will have on our family’s quality of life, our home, and our hard-earned investment. We have police officers to protect us from criminals and they’re doing a fantastic job. We have firefighters to protect us from fires as well as medical emergencies and they are the among the finest in the industry. We have a zoning department that is paid for by tax dollars and a Board of Commissioners that was elected for their skill and integrity to protect us, from our perspective, from bad development in Fayette County. Neighbor, please call or e-mail your commissioners and ask them to review the development plan on New Hope Road, petition 1147-05, which is to be heard by the Board of Commissioners on Oct. 27. Ask if this was their home would they vote yes for this development. Bud and Judy Chastain |
