Residents can travel to the heart of downtown Newnan this weekend and learn what $35 million of taxpayers’ dollars looks like.

County officials are swinging the doors open to the new state-of the art Justice Center for a dedication and open house ceremony at 1 p.m. Sunday.. The Justice Center, located at 72 Greenville Street in Newnan, will bring the court functions of the county back into one building. For years, lawyers and court staff have shuffled between buildings trying to get all the county’s court functions accomplished.

The dedication and preview features a short program, ribbon cutting, self-guided tours and a 3 p.m. ceremonial laying of the cornerstone by the Grand Master of the Masons.

The Justice Center is 130,000 sq. ft and features eight courtrooms. It also houses the offices for the Clerk of the State Court, the Clerk of the Superior Court, the District Attorney, the County Solicitor, and offices for Magistrate Court. It was funded completely through SPLOST funds and was designed with significant input from the users and a focus on security. On the same campus is the Juvenile Court building, which is also new, but will not be open on March 19. Courts and support staff will begin moving into the new space on a staggered plan beginning in April.
