Oak Grove Elementary hosts fund raiser for the kids

Lace up your running shoes! It’s time for Oak Grove Elementary’s third annual fun run, “Run for the Gold!”

The first “Run for the Gold” was held in March of 2004 to raise funds for the technology needs of Oak Grove Elementary School. In 2005 the race became part of the Rotary Club and the Peachtree City Running Club’s Grand Prix Series of 5K races. Last year’s race had over 400 participants.

This year’s race will once again benefit the technology needs of Oak Grove Elementary with all proceeds going toward the fund. Ramsey Sibaja, an Oak Grove Elementary parent, is the designer of this year’s race t-shirt. Sibaja is a graphic artist who has assisted with many school projects in his children’s classrooms.

This year’s race promises to be a fun filled event for everyone. Runners will be pleased to find out that the AJC newspaper, with the July 4th Peachtree Road Race application, will be sold at the race. Run for the Gold organizers have offered to make a copy of any person’s photo ID who wishes to apply for the summer race and will even take the application to the post office for those who provide an envelope and postage stamp.

There will also be a host of exciting door prizes given away, including two tickets on AirTran Airways. The morning event is well attended by Oak Grove families as well as community members. All ages are welcome, so come join the fun!

The race, which consists of a 5K race and 1-mile Fun Run, will be held this Saturday, March 18. Warm-up will begin at 7:30 a.m. The 5K will begin at 8:00 a.m., and the 1-mile event will begin at 8:10 a.m. The race will begin on Log House Road and end at Oak Grove Elementary.
The course is certified, number pending.

The race fee will be $20 which includes a cotton race day t-shirt for all 5K run and 1-mile run/walk participants who have registered before race day. 5K awards will be given to the top three male and female winners of each age group. Race day registration will be available, however, a t-shirt cannot be guaranteed.

Race numbers and t-shirts may be picked up at the school from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, March 17. For more information you may visit the website at www.fcboe.org/schoolhp/oges/index.htm or email runforthegold@fcboe.org. Oak Grove Elementary is located at 101 Crosstown Road in Peachtree City, Ga.
