Dr. Michael H. Deis, associate professor of Management at Clayton State University, has been awarded the University System of Georgia Board of Regents’ Teaching Excellence Award for Regional and State Universities. The system-wide award recognizes faculty and departments for a strong commitment to teaching and service to students. Deis, a resident of Lake Redwine Plantation in Newnan, began teaching part-time for Clayton State in 1991 and became a full-time faculty member in the School of Business in 1997. He holds a B.S. in Industrial Management from the University of Cincinnati, an M.B.A. from the University of Dayton, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Florida’s Nova Southeastern University. He currently teaches Performance/Quality Management, Business Statistics, and Strategic Management, along with general management courses at Clayton State, focusing on operational and performance improvement processes. Prior to coming to Clayton State, Deis worked in both the private and public sectors. He has taught at the middle school, high school and graduate school levels and has worked as an industrial engineer for General Motors, and as an operations analyst for the government. For the past five years Deis has published more than 20 articles, primarily in management and instructional disciplines, and has authored, co-authored, and presented papers at more than 50 conferences. “My philosophy of teaching is really quite simple,” says Deis. “I love teaching! The students, faculty and staff are tremendous and I thoroughly enjoy what I do. I want the students to be motivated to learn, be on time, make friends, be as active as possible – both on campus and in their own life, be responsible, and have a lot of fun.” Deis and his wife, Sandra, have four children and four grandchildren. Clayton State University, located in Morrow, is a state university of the University System of Georgia serving the Metro Atlanta region. login to post comments |
