Sally Raymond, a preschool diagnostician and teacher with the Exceptional Children’s Services Department, has co-authored “An Aesop Adventure,” a collection of fables, songs and activities for the elementary classroom. The collection includes the ageless wisdom of Aesop in a unique cross-curricular resource of stories, original songs and extension activities that teach and entertain at the same time. Created for grades 1-5, “An Aesop Adventure” contains eight classic fables rewritten in limerick format for ease in memorization, a song to accompany each fable as well as an overall theme song, plus creative extension ideas for language arts, creative writing, math, science and art. Raymond collaborated with Cristi Cary Miller, a published composer who holds an exclusive contract with the Hal Leonard Corporation, to adapt the fables for the stage and create the extension activities. Each of the nine songs in the collection incorporates lyrics written by Raymond and music by Miller. The fables include “Bad Company” (The story of the Farmer and the Stork), “Sour Grapes” (The story of the Fox and the Grapes), “A Small Act of Kindness” (The story of the Lion and the Mouse), “Too Little, Too Late” (The story of the Ant and the Grasshopper), “Wolf, Wolf!” (The story of the Boy Who cried “Wolf!”), “One Step at a Time” (The story of the Tortoise and the Hare), “Simple Pleasures” (The Story of the Town Mouse and the Country Mouse), and “Where There’s a Will, There’s a Way” (The story of the Crow and the Pitcher). The songs range in style from blues and swing to rock and roll and country. The publications can be purchased online at www.hallenoard.com. login to post comments |
