Jessica Bell, a 17-year-old McIntosh High School senior, is leading the efforts at her church to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina. Bell is a member of Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church in Sharpsburg.

She approached her pastor, Father David Epps, about her willingness to collect and distribute food and clothing. The congregation responded by donating items and money.

The food and clothing were given to the Salvation Army, while the donations were used in a variety of situations — they aided a pastor and his family who lost their home, helped to support 12 people in Hogansville who fled from the storm, assisted a relief worker in meeting his expenses during a week of volunteer work in New Orleans, and provided funds to other agencies.

Known as “Jaye” to her McIntosh classmates, Bell is the daughter of Tracey Bell of Peachtree City and Richard Bell of Atlanta.

She is a member of the music ministry, child care ministry and acolyte ministry at her church.
